With the help of brother Daniel, responsible for producing Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind, Bob Lanois crafts a series of 9 ghostly songs showcasing his ethereal harmonica. Devoid of words the pieces become winding musical experiments with traces of inspiration relating to memories and family. The textures of the songs are produced by various electronic instruments accented by the echo-laden Lanois trademark production. Bordering on cheesy the arrangements often swallow Bob's weepy harmonica but can easily swing back to effectively producing an authentic serenity, luring the listener into lush sound-scapes. The spare "Oiseau" captures the essence of Canadian loneliness in vast freedom but suffers intermittently due to Bob's meandering harmonica shying away from creating something truly evocative. As a minor project, Snake Road draws it's allure from the musical conversation going on between the Lanois brothers, however it remains an inclusive one not every listener can tune in on.
