This album is a love note to music fans who remember the other side of British music in the 80s, the opposite side of the spectrum from WHAM!, The Police and Duran Duran. This music, compiled by Vince Hunt and Daren Garret, was a musical response to New Wave and a political response to Thatcher conservatism. It bridged the era punk to the rise of techno, influencing many of the bands that rose to prominence in the 90s on both sides of the Atlantic. Featured bands like The Membranes, Vinyl Drip and Euphorium are excellent examples of Britain's mid-80s D-I-Y (or Do-It-Yourself) spirit that inspired alternative and grunge bands for years. The album highlights both big names in the underground like The Fall, as well as lesser known groups like Great Leap Forward and Jackdaw with Crowbar. Want to know where the 90s sound came from?
