The front cover of this EP may make Old Crow Medicine Show look like some kind of boy band, but their music is definitely more back country than backstreet. Call this what you want: alt-country, bluegrass, folk; all I know is that these three tracks exemplify the charm and emotion of a good, old fashioned acoustic quintet. The first song ?Down Home Girl?, highlights a great harmonica accompaniment and an easy lyrical symmetry. ?James River Blues? makes you want to start clapping along from the opening chords; it?s a kind of campfire sing-a-long parable about men without a purpose highlighted by great performances on the strings. The bonus track ?Fall On My Knees? is a wonderful little hoe down number that makes you want to get up and dance even if you don?t know the steps. If you?re one of those people that bought the Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack then it ill-behooves you to not give this band a listen.
