If The Dust of Retreat is any indication than this Indianapolis eight-piece stands ready to join other indie-pop big bands in the centre ring of the modern music scene. The opening song ?A Sea Chanty of Sorts?? lays out an ethereal sound that carries you away on simple guitar strings even before you get to the first verse; it just soothes the savage beast. ?Skeleton Key? opens with a neat little cello chord that begins slowly before building into a wonderful pop ditty; it happened so gradually you think the disc has moved on to the next song. The tone and style changes again with ?Vampires in Blue Dresses? as it starts out up tempo and carries the listener through to a blast of background trumpet and heavy percussions, all the while delivery a number that is pure pop without cynicism. The rest of the album plays on these stylings, but the band always keeps a few things hidden in their bag of tricks to deploy at just the right time.
