read another review where somebody referred to The Heathens as ?y?allternative? and I liked that so much I thought I?d use it here to introduce the band. The Heathens are folksier than country, but neither label entirely does the band justice; they?re like a fine garage band with delusions of being from the country. Sometimes I felt they were trying too hard to embrace the county within, but I chalk it up to a band that?s still trying to cement their sound while getting their feet wet. Still, one can?t help but be impressed by the band?s deft handling of so many styles and influences as well as their musical confidence and delivery. This is an honest and refreshing album by a band with a unique sound.
