The German/Canadian duo of Devrim Eldelekli and Andrea de Boer definitely create beautiful music together (with the help of a larger band) on their eponymous debut disc. Blue Venus is skewing towards the pop crowd for sure, at times sounding very much like any other singer/songwriter available for parties and Bar Mitzvahs; but tracks like ?Jack Of Hearts? and ?Beside You? give de Boer a kind of 40s torch singer quality or at least the feel of some kind of jazz vocalist. The accompanying music demonstrates a wide variety of influences and musical styles; there are bits of country, jazz, garage rock and straight up pop. To end it all is the song ?Scribe?, which starts out light and tranquil before building a layer of rock that takes it to a whole other level. Blue Venus may be short, but it is all too sweet.
