Not being a fan of death metal, I got a little down when I put on Blood Red Thorne's Altered Genesis and spent about two minutes listening to the far-off tortured cries of what I could only guess were Kenny G fans. But this album was something of a surprise, I guess it might be because of the Norwegian twist that Blood Red Thorne brings to the genre. Skilled drumming and guitar work are key to the delightful Death Metal-lite twist to this album; it's like nothing you've probably heard from the genre. At least like nothing I have heard in the genre due to my emersion in the form for the last several weeks. It won't make my list of favourites, but even I can appreciate that this isn't the same-old/same-old.
