If you have a crazy, angry pencil drawing of what looks like a jack-in-the-box Jack on the cover of your album...well, I don't know what exactly. But one thing's for sure: I couldn't stop looking at it as I listened to If All Else Fails. To be clear, when the word "angry" is invoked, you know that what you are about to hear is punk, and this is sweet punk with a message: if you're not angry yet, you should be. The band launches a blistering attack on the moral majority and right-wing politics. In the first several tracks we get songs that undermine religious radicalism and the recent voice of politics. ("Inside the Lie" even samples some "friends" from Fox News and the White House.) The balance of the album skewers more to the personal side, and that was okay with me because the quality remained strong. The music itself was diverse; we get acoustic sounds, hard rocking guia r riffs, even some Latin-influenced jazz. A terrific debut effort and a band that deserves a larger audience.
