Through 21st century eyes, looking at the band's portrait of the back of the album, it's easy to understand why Vain entitled their debut album No Respect. “They probably didn't get any,” you're saying. As to the extent of the respect they received when they came to fame in the mid-80s, I am unsure. What I do know is that with new ears, you realize that Vain is a gem from the era where any band with big hair, make-up and an attitude probably got a recording deal. The guitar work by Danny West and James Scott is excellent, and Tom Rickard's drums are a true accompaniment to the music, never drowning out Davy Vain's smooth vocals. Vain's No Respect is the reason why we need album re-issues, so that after the smoke has settled and the poseurs have moved on, a true talent can be appreciated.
