The wealth of musical talent on the west coast never fails to amaze, with Autoviolet we get a modern rock band with an electronica flare. Lead singer Amy Arsenault makes for a powerful front-woman, think Gwen Stefani, but with a wider vocal range. If you've liked Garbage in the past then undoubtedly Autoviolet is going to appeal to you, but there's more energy and less gloom. Arsenault is backed-up by an excellent trio of musicians in Chris Dang on guitar, Brent David Johnson on bass and Shawn Newby on drums. The three songs on this EP demonstrates the group's ability to induce a wide-range of emotional reaction to their music; they can either make you want to get up and dance or they can lull you into a trace. A really excellent first offering.
