Do you like melancholy death metal? Than you've found a friend in Wolves in the Throne Room. This album is not exactly what I expected, for usually the genre label of black and/or death metal conjures an impression of screaming lyrics and super-sized instrumentals. Sure I couldn't make out what the lead singer was trying to say half the time, but the chaotic melodies were enough to keep me listening. Another Internet reviewer called the music folk/metal; that description sort of caught me surprise, it was a very apt description for this music. Now this is an EP, made up of only four songs, but considering that those songs are nearly 20 minutes each this sample is more like a buffet. For metal that goes against the grain, check this out.
