Oh, sweet Punk Rock Mix Tape on CD, we've found each other at last. But enough gushing, here's a few of the reasons why you need this disc. It starts off with Descendents, a punk band that blasted out of suburban Los Angeles at the beginning of the 80s, they were highly influential on future acts like Green Day and The Offspring. "Nothing With You" is short, sweet and catchy; the perfect way to start this collection.



From there, we move on to Strung Out, a relatively new outfit-at least as compared to the Descendents. Strung Out's "Analog" rocks a little harder than the disc's opening number, but the band's catchy hooks and quick fingers easily acclimate the listener to a faster pace. Marathon, Over It and 7-10 Split follow in Strung Out's footsteps with hard rocking punk anthems that will get you reaching for your finest air guitar.



On track six, we get Big D & The Kids Table; an excellent specimen of third wave ska punk, and their "New Nail Bed" is just a groovy, danceable tune that inspires involuntary toe tapping. In keeping with the spirit of Big D, "New Nail Bed " is followed up by the Methadones' "Mess We Made". While The Methadones take themselves a little more seriously then others, they are a punk band in the best traditions of the Ramones. In keeping with the spirit of the Ramones is Wyoming-based punk band Teenage Bottlerocket with "So Cool". It's a playful song that makes for great listening or great dancing.



With that I'll bring the review to a close, because I feel the album should be yours to discover. The styles may be different, but the bands here are united in one purpose: to make great punk music. I highly recommend this mix tape...I mean CD. Whatever, just buy it. (That's the punk attitude.)
