Alt-country is the best way to describe the Wrinkle Neck Mules; too funky to be country and not rockin' enough to be alternative. They meet in the middle with a clean sound and a smart sense of lyrical storytelling. Think a landlocked Great Big Sea, or Blue Rodeo with a greater emphasis on "Rodeo". Occasionally the bluegrass roots of the band show through the rock 'n' roll colouring they've adopted, but you're too busy coasting on the album's groove to notice. This is organic music with no added preservatives or post-production tricks. It's got melody, it's got hooks and it's just nice to sit down and listen to.
