Leaving something unfinished is the worst kind of hell for an artist, it represents a kind of failure. Unfortunately, Death doesn't care about what we leave behind, even if it is art. But in the case of Charles Ives' final work Universe Symphony, we get a completed work thanks to Johnny Reinhard. I'm sure this could be problematic, one man finishing another man's symphony, but Reinhard has pieced together this music with skill and grace. Make no mistake: this is not some ad hoc science fiction soundtrack, it's a meditative creation of sound, every instrument has it's place and purpose. A must-listen for any fan of symphonic music.
