I've heard Julie Larson's other album from Artmuse and I fairly enjoyed it, but I think I like this one more. On this disk Larson looses the folk and amps up the classic rock sound, it may sound odd, but Apotheosis was such a rich collection of sounds and genres it seems a natural transition to put the emphasis on another sound. Also evident on Wakening is Larson's ever present flute that is a surprisingly good fit in the sound for this album. There's atmosphere on this disc, but there's also a leaning towards the 70s rock stylings of artists like Joan Baez, complete with the same desire to make a social statement while making good music. Truly, an excellent album with an evolved sound.
