Big hair is an aesthetic choice that I will never understand, especially as how it relates to rock music. Regardless my feelings for big hair or, God forbid, Mullets, I can't deny the skilled musicians of Rock City Angels. This reissue of the bands 1988 album is the type of disc where you look at the cover and go, "Yeah, so what?" and then the music hits you upside the head. When the album started the progressions immediately reminded me of ZZ Top. As the album zipped along I started hearing the songwriter's beautiful splicing of Eddie Cochran and Sid Vicious, creating Rock City Angels' smooth mix of rock and punk. Look to track three co-written by a young Johnny Depp if you want your mind really blown. Another late 80s treat that was buried in he onslaught, that might hopefully find some new life.
