An interesting blend of rock and punk makes Deerhunter's debut album, to say the least, an interesting listen. It's also surprisingly danceable at times as the hardcore element is downplayed to let the punk aesthetic to shine through. There's an always surprising blend of styles and forms and genres as Deerhunter creates a sound that is probably unlike anything else out there. This album is a treat, it's serious music that's not taken to seriously, and more than likely even better when heard live. Some songs like "Tech School" and "Basement" work a little better than others, but I can't say there's a single track that made me pause at the enjoying this disc. A stellar debut, albeit rather brief. More, please!
