Between the cover art and the band name you may be thinking that we have another X-Files influenced punk act raging against the machine. If this is the case then be prepared for a pleasant surprise in Cicada. 13 Ghosts has produced a straight up rock/pop album that breezes by on solid musical talent, expertly played guitar and subtle background percussion. Cicada moves starts off quiet and reflexive highlighting soft vocals and light guitar, but as the album moves along it slowly finds more to rock about. The transition is so smooth you barely notice. The center piece of the album (literally and figuratively) is "Robert J." which evokes musical storytelling in the best tradition of Bob Dylan. The album is a little on the long side, but who can complain when the music is this good.
