From the “Named-the-Opposite-of-what-they-are” files, Solo Career is a California-based, instrumental quintet made up of three guitars, a bass, and a set of drums. If you are fan of modern jazz or of improvised music in general, then there is much to recommend to Season Finale. The first track, “Tectonic Shifts” starts off light and jazzy, as the melodies and the instruments build on each other, but as the record movies on and more rock-like riffs are added to the sound mix. As each band member does their own thing as the music plays on, there are times it all works and times where it's just too busy to be allowed. In this album, Solo Career gives us music to reflect and music to reflect about.
