Love Tractor was in Athens, Georgia when that lazy college town became the Mecca of alternative music in the 80s that also gave rise to R.E.M. and the B-52s to name a few. They have since phased in and out of the music and this disc represents the latest effort of theirs to a strong instrumental base with an Allman Brothers–like feel to the lyrical delivery. In fact, the whole thing is bathed in love for the 70s ambition for creating whole albums that can feel divergent yet cohesive. I have to say that technically the album is excellent, it just didn’t engage me enough as a listener to leave the analytical behind and groove on the music alone. It’s got some interesting bits, but I don’t think they add up to the whole.
