“Blue grass and Murder Ballads” is what’ s on this album, and I have to admit that I know what one is but not the other. I’ ve heard the term “Death Country” , but I’ m just assuming from now on that all these sub-genre category labels are a fancy way of saying “downer music” . Hey, there’ s another turn of phrase. But to be serious, the music of Busted Hearts has less to do with trying to invent something new and is more about recapturing a feeling through a specific art form known as the banjo solo. This is county fair music, and that’ s not a disparagement. It’ s a type of music that is easily transferable to being delivered live. It’ s also storytelling music, each tune is three-minute tale of heartache and misfortune, except for the banjo solo that is, that’ s just about a banjo playing.
