Kim Esty may be a name vaguely familiar to Canadian music fans because she collaborated with the Boomtang Boys on a number of tracks like “Squeeze Toy” and “Pictures”. To the point, this is another made-up cartoon band like the Gorillaz and Prozzak but aimed at the pre-teen set like a Bratz meets Mini-pops hybrid. The songs are fairly catchy—assuming you can get past the overly cutesy characters—but if you’re reading this web site, then chances are that you’ve outgrown the phase that would see you enthralled with the music of Banana Bunny or bandmates Cindy Loo and Fame Blonde. I would say though if you have young cousins or nieces and nephews taking their first steps into pop, you could do a lot worse than the Kartoon Kids.
