Yet again I had to test my tolerance for shrieking/grunting vocals here, and it wasn't as easy this time around. In a few of the songs the playing became so fast and somewhat disorganized it steered toward more of a noise/metal sound. Though the entire CD isn't all like that.
My favorite tracks off this CD were 4, 6, and 7. Though I found even my favorite tracks had some similar elements, that seemed to take away from the overall sound. Geez, if only these guys would cut out those repetitive parts they'd have some really flawless pieces!
Joe Totty (bass), Tino LoSicco (drums and lyrics), and Josh Braddock (guitars) have been playing together since 1990, but became officially known as Epoch of Unlight in 1994, adding on BJ Cook (vocals) for this album . They've played with the likes of Dimmu Borgir, and Samael in a 5 week national tour, and Enslaved on a 2 week national tour and even made an appearance here up north in Toronto for the Annual Northern Lights Festival.
Overall, the CD wasn't too bad. The similar bits and pieces in alot of the songs really irked me though. I'd keep your eyeball peeled for anything new from these guys, they have skills for sure, and maybe their next album will show it more.
