When I heard the first song off this CD I thought, "ohhhh boy, I dunno about this", simply because i'm not a fan of the yelling/screaching/grunting type vocals usually. So I had to forget my bias against those type of vocals to start to liten to the CD, and I tell ya, it really wasn't that hard!
Could it be that Yyrkoon has opened Miss Masse's eyes to a new and energetic world of yelly-grunty vocals?!?!?? We'll see kids, we'll see. Ha!
The first time i gave the CD a full listen I was about to sleep. Boy, that was a mistake! You ever lay down at night and just relax to some music on your way to slumberville only to have the strange sensation of lying totally still while your heart rate rises? It's a strange feeling indeed, and a testament to how well Yyrkoon rocks.
Yyrkoon first formed in France in 1995, and suffered a myriad of band member switcharoos. For this album the lineup was Jeff (guitars), Victo (bass), Dirk (drums), and Steph (guitars and vocals).Steph is the mastermind behind Yyrkoon (he does most of the song writing and musical composition), so his stay in the band has been unwavering.
My favorite picks of the album are the intro, and track number 3, 4 and 11. Yyrkoons sound is fast, hard, and unforgiveing. Because of the fast pace bits of some songs seem a little simmilar, but the big picture shows different.
If you like black/heavy metal, you'll love Yyrkoons Occult Medicine.
