It’s funny; I heard the name David Wolfenberger, saw that title of the album and now here I am thinking I was expecting to hear music this mellow. Indeed, Wolfenberger is one cool cat as he appears to be a mature-sounding artist in full confidence of his abilities and with a no-frills style of delivery. The music itself is brought to life mostly through the typical four-piece combo of guitar, bass, piano, and drums, but occasional soft organs and ubiquitous pedal steel sounds are worked into the sound. Neo-folk legend Michelle Shocked lends her vocal assistance on “Something’s Gotta Give”, but much of the rest of the time it’s the soft tone of Carrie Smiley that beautifully complements the man called “Wolf”.
