I have become fairly well acquainted with the music of Gerard Edery lately, but regardless of familiarity, every project he’s involved in is unique to itself and unique to whatever other artist he’s working with. The music of this album moves rather briskly, really up tempo and a little in touch with the Spanish origins of the music. Joining Edery is expert oud player Aaron Bensousan, who gets to go funky with a couple of really sweet solos. The tremendous voice of vocalist Alberto Mizrahi joins the group lending his marvelous singing prowess. Mizrahi’s been frequently referred to as the “Jewish Pavarotti” and wouldn’t you know that Mizrahi could pass for Pavarotti’s younger brother. I feel I should mention that this review isn’t sarcastic; I really mean it when I say this music is delightful—not for the headbanging crowd, but enjoyable for anyone with a fine taste in music.
