Plan 9 is a three-piece, Vancouver jazz band, and that’s really all there is to it. Unification is a great band-jam album wherein three expert musicians get together and play to their heart’s content with a great multi-layered atmospheric sound. With Gordon Grdina on guitar, Jeremy Holmes on bass, and Alex McKechnie on drums, everybody gets a chance to shine and make his instrument sing. Holmes fingers move very fast across his bass and is the highlight of several really smoldering solos; McKechnie also gets some love with some solid beats that just take the music up another notch. This is just great band music: easy to listen to but done with style.
