Moontan sounds almost ethereal, like something you get from a spiritual journey or from dropping acid. But Moontan is indeed serious about his rock, and this New York City boy does indeed know how to rock. Moontan trades between tributes to some of the greats: the Beatles, Bob Dylan, AC/DC and Nirvana. He highlights his rock with bits of alternative, folk and roots. The guitar chords of the opening “Six Degrees” instantly and easily puts one in a British Invasion frame of mind. Flip to “Good Looking” and the opening strings there make you think “Back In Black”, while Moontan’s soulful and stirring voice plays over the harmony. “Chaos” and “Wanderlust” are a little more mellow, but hey, only accentuate Moontan’s ample musical talent, highlighting his skill as a songwriter as well as a musician. All-in-all, Moontan is an excellent taste of the acoustic side of the melody spectrum.
