Master bassist Billy Sheehan spreads the wealth when he’s joined by a multitude of featured guests for his new album. The music is instrumental, but it’ll keep your ears busy as you follow along and groove to every beat and rhythm. “Elbow Grease” creates just such a feeling, really putting some effort into the sound and playing out beyond all control, a work-horse kind of song that keeps things up tempo for the long haul of five and a half minutes. Then take “Sugar Blues”, which is kind of bluesy, but sugared up with a sweet, little electronic tint to the tune. This album impresses on you without reservation why Sheehan is one of the finest bassists working now or in the last twenty years.
