I’ve never heard music like this at the mall…maybe that’s the point. This Mall is a post-hardcore outfit from San Francisco that could very easily have tried to build a rep by just embracing the full-on scream-o persona and the image of being just another seemingly damaged on the inside death rock gang with attitude to spare. Oh, no…they could not leave well enough alone. They had to add that silly keyboard into their band's sound. “What silly keyboard?” you ask, “Don’t a lot of bands use keyboards?” Technically correct, but generally they don’t use the ones that come from the electronics department at Zellers. Thanks to this innovative and rather subtle adjustment, The Mall elevates itself to “inspired” status. The Mall also keeps it brief, condensing their sound into 13 short burst of harmonic fury. If the real mall sounded more like this, instead of screaming children, I might like going there.
