On The Outside is the third self produced album from Scandinavian-born, UK-based, singer/songwriter Jenny Beck. I know I can be hard on young, guitar-wielding songstresses, but it's not because I don't like them—it's the exact opposite actually. It's tough to stand out in such a huge crowd; solo artists, like any other artist, really do need to have that extra special something if they want to be memorable. The question, then, is. . .does Jenny Beck have that extra special something? Well her voice completely reminds me of Leanna Rimes. That said, she's definitely more folksy than she is country. I'm not sure if there's anything extraordinary about this album, but Beck's talent is obvious and I did find her much more enjoyable than many of the ladies of this genre. And hey, she's young—it's only up from here.
