Mika Miko, an L.A. based, all girl rock band makes chaos sound good. Known around the L.A. scene for their over-the-top free form musical performances, Mika Miko is one of those underground bands that everyone seems to know about in the independent music scene. The music is strongly influenced by indie rock, with an 80s garage band feel to it. Even the singers sound like Nena who sang “99 luftballoons”, equally incomprehensible, but also equally exciting and fun to listen to.
Mika Miko is enigmatic as they prefer to let the music speak for itself; to dig up some info on this band you’d need Henry Kissinger to do it. So that’s what I’ll talk about—the music. Thirteen tracks in total, which express a rock for rock's sake type of feel. Without over analyzing themselves, Mika Miko seems to wear their unpampered music like they wear jeans and Tees bearing the words “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on them. C.Y.S.L.A.B.F seems under-processed and effortlessly compiled, but you can probably guarantee that more work went into that ‘unthoughtabout’ feel than much of the over-stylized music out there.
This is a playful rock, virtual punk, collection of songs from one of the most popular and unheard of bands in L.A. So if you've forgotten what real music sounds like, and by that I mean without the morphing and electronic overhauling, I suggest you pick up C.Y.S.L.A.B.F by Mika Miko.
