If you own any type of contraband weaponry, I can guarantee you’ll love Chaos Is My Name by Khlyst. This is the type of music that goes under the “little scary” title, what with all the female screaming, pulsing angry guitar, heavy graveyard running voiceover and demonic vocal interludes you might have a parade of night sweats after this collection. In fact, Khlyst actually describes the music of Chaos is My Name as “sounding like you’re being beat with a wet mattress while someone screams in your ear.” I couldn’t say it was a bad collection of songs, just geared towards a very specific type of music lover; predominantly the ones who own the soundtrack to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Bassist James Plotkin and vocalist Runhild Gammelsaeter create a very minimalistic sound, ensuring that every terrifying noise is well-manipulated into rendering one, well…terrified. It surprises me how Runhild could make such a continually angry and horrifying scream for such an extended amount of time, no liner notes, so I couldn’t really get the essence of his lyrics. Without a joke, this CD would really make an excellent soundtrack to a horror flick. However, I’ll be having nightmares for weeks after listening to this, but I give it two and a half fluffy bunny ears out of five.
