Probably the greatest trick Criss Angel pulls is that he is constantly underestimated. You say when you see the TV promos, “yeah this kid's got nothing on David Copperfield,” and then Angel surprises you. Same thing with his Mindfreak soundtrack, you say to yourself “yeah this kid can do magic, but he can’t sing,” again by underestimating Criss Angel you become pleasantly surprised. Angel has pulled more than rabbits from his hat, or the way cooler and less out dated magic he demonstrates on his A&E hit show Mindfreak, with his newest, or possibly oldest, venture into music.



Criss Angel was a musician before he was a magician, so finding a forum for his music has made Angel a very happy man. The 2-disc collection is set up one disc for music and the second disc a DVD of Angel making his “MF2” video and intro song for the second season of his show. It’s a revealing look at Criss Angel as he seems never off his footing when performing a stunt, but completely giddy at the prospect of making music. Finally, we see he can be spooked a little!



Truthfully though, the compilation of songs is really good and ideal for a rock and roll night club. The music is a cross between hard techno vibes and heavy metal, producing a unique and intriguing sound. Mind you, that is Criss Angel’s act, doing what hasn’t been done before.



Particularly enamoring songs were the ones where a beautiful and luminescent Indian or perhaps Middle Eastern female singer adds her softer vocals to Criss Angel’s harder rock vocals; it's a nicely balanced combination. Yet again, I felt a sense of surprise as I enjoyed the well compiled collection that was produced, written and performed by Criss Angel. I suspect this is the first of many CDs from Mindfreak, as Criss Angel does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
