You may have fallen into The White Stripes' “Blue Orchid” video when you listen to the music of Blind Divine. That imagery of a world slightly similar to mine, but recreated through artistic visionary is exactly how the music of Blind Divine can best be related; through imagery as opposed to words.

Daniel Martin Diaz as composer and Paula Catherine Valencia on vocals/lyrics make a perfect partnership. The three-disc set titled Melancholia is a collection of songs and instrumentals the two have created between 2005 and 2006. Devouring The Beautiful is their first disc and is mostly short pieces, much of it is instrumental with mild amounts of flowing singing. Music For Unmade Movies is similar to the first, but the most current collection also included in Melancholia is Desire To Destroy, which has a definite change in texture. A more formatted selection of songs with stronger vocal lead is on Desire To Destroy, making this the most tangible of the three discs.

Blind Divine describes their music as “art music,” and in a way I can understand how the alternative, unstructured musings can be seen as such. As both Daniel and Paula are artists in other forms as well, it seems that their music is well-suited to extend across the same borders. While listening to the tracks, you can easily be filled with evocative imagery and thoughts of mystical and romantic elements. A likening to Enya in abstract but Salvador Dali in intent, Blind Divine is a musical journey of abstract excellence. Many of their songs have been featured on MTV, VH1, Discovery and A&E, as the ethereal essence of their songs is a beautiful backdrop to any image whether it be on screen or on canvas. I would highly, highly recommend you play Blind Divine on your ipod while walking through the hallways of a museum and gazing upon artworks.

I also suspect you will be hearing more of this unusual “art music” as they will probably populate a lot of TV and film soundtracks very soon.
