Watch out Oasis, you?re about to get a smack down, and from a US band no less. The Shake is possibly the best unsigned band to be a part of the NYC indie fabric for far too long unnoticed. Kick It is their debut CD, professionally executed in both look and sound, these guys mean business. Jon Merkin (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Eliad Shapiro (lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Jeremy Stein (bass, backing vocals) and Andrew McNellis (drums, percussion) make up The Shake, who have such diverse musical backgrounds as punk, classical, rock and blues. What emerges is a completely unique sound reminiscent of Oasis, full of rock n? roll and enough belting punk thrown in to make you sit up and listen.
The Shake have wicked melodies and strong song structure with songs like ?Frequency?, ?Princes and Kings?, and ?Outcast? that will leave you breathless and eager for more progressive and bolshy tracks. When The Shake does dive into their punk influences like on ?Manic Boogie?, you are assured to be listening to some authentic and yet original soundscapes. Jon Merkin?s vocals are hoarse and captivating like those of Liam Gallagher, which will make Kick It easy to listen to anywhere.
All I have left to ask is, with guitar playing and vocals like this, why haven?t these guys been signed to a major label yet?
