Ah, yet another musical genre I just don't get. Death Metal. Actually, I can almost get She Killed Poetry's approach—almost. Shout Out The Silence, the Texas-based band's latest album, does employ some mainstays of music-making. Though I don' t think you can call what they've got here “songs”, each is decipherable from the others, and some even have an inkling of singing in them—to go along with the ever-so-pleasant guttural roar and screech. I found the music much more enjoyable (tolerable?) when I read along with the printed lyrics, but I'm not sure if that was because I was actually enjoying the music, or just pleased with myself for understanding what they were saying. That said, I'm aware there's a fan base out there for hardcore and death metal, so although I'm not a fan, I do wish these guys the best. She Killed Poetry is Joseph Riojas (guitar/singing), Derek Troxell (guitar), Chad Spears (Vocals), James Carlos (bass), and Scott Van Slyke (drums).
