On their MySpace page, Thumbscrew lists “death”, “rape”, and “torture” as their influences. Goody. I'm not sure I want to know how this band came up with their name, but I'm assuming it's open to interpretation or definition—my personal favourite being: “the act of inserting one's thumbs into one's ears in a fashion similar to that of a screwdriver in motion.” Something tells me you will become very familiar with this definition if you decide to give Thumbscrew a listen. And if you do decide to give Within Hearts Of Redemption, or W.H.O.R.E as Thumbscrew likes to call it (the “e” borrowed from EP), a try, I suggest saving it for certain occasions: before facing hoards of holiday shoppers (especially on Boxing Day), or to psych yourself up for a high-stakes game of squash.
