Since being discovered in a talent search in the 80s, Alex Masi has spent his time either rocking out hard with cuts like Attack Of The Neon Shark or giving a modern guitar spin to Beethoven, Bach and other old schoolers. Somewhere in the middle is this release, which mixes a bit of funk into Masi’s guitar riffs creating a somewhat more jazzy sound as opposed to metal rock. Also, there’s the feeling of hypno-psychedelic fever trance in some of the songs. I’m sure that the hardcore among us will see this as a betrayal for some reason, but I found cause to enjoy the compositions as a mellow way to let some tension go without losing consciousness. Having said that, I think the music is a little indicative of other, similar sounds, but since when has that been a caveat to not enjoy a musician’s work.
