The debut collection of Molding is Happy. Two CDs later, and they seem to be doing well for themselves, as Molding has made a thong for ever-zealous fans to purchase on their website; when music and thongs converge. . .and not just on stage it appears. Molding is a band that is basically a melting pot of artists from other bands who enjoy working with each other. The songs are considered to be a “sort of shelter for homeless songs” they profess on their website. Molding is a shelter for homeless songs alright, and perhaps the songs would have been better off remaining on the streets. Happy has no cohesive elements, no running theme, or even musical sound. Each song jumps from one style to the next and has no harmonious elements to it.
Molding mixes alternative rock with a country and punk influence. I was surprised at the screwball attitude of the collection, seeing as the Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies have a tendency towards a clear, decisive and strong musical inspiration. The concept of Molding not taking themselves seriously appeared less whimsical and more like disorganized. This was a disappointment for me, but considering that they’ve already got an additional two collections under their belt, I’m sure my review will mean little to them, or their audience.
