Electronic salsa anyone? Put on that new CD from SSIA! Who's that? She's Spanish, I'm American of course! Arriba! Band Members include Josh Rouse and Paz Suay. They are signed to the independent label Nettwerk who is in the habit of producing the underground talent that seems to be bulldozing its way to the surface of creativity and popularity. Multiphase electronics and looping guitars produce an addictive dance formula here. Fetching and alluring, the vocals of the duo seem to be able to stew up a beat that is South beach and Beatles-esque, all at the same time. From the get-go I liked where this EP was going musically. Acoustic guitars and a Latin beat poises the sound, cultivating something consistent and charismatic. The guitars are very seducing and I could imagine myself slow-dancing to it on the beach. Sedate, enticing, charming and magnetic, this project seems to have displayed an air of potential. On the whole, this is a fun sound, but without that energetic beat I am unsure where they are going with these lyrics. Once in a while you get groups that can relate only to themselves. Some songs mean nothing at all, and are purely trying to be fun. I would be interested in seeing where these guys are going with their message. Until then I will just enjoy the salsa. Nachos anyone?
