Silhouette is almost perfect.

Upon first listen it seems a basic pop project with a golden-voiced lad and an average line-up of back-up instruments, but further spins move further into your mind, further into the deep and into the shadows. To say it is emotionally layered would be an understatement

Harald Frøland, formerly of Jaga Jazzist, is the man behind Black Feather. His solo project has simmered slowly over two years of composing, arranging and performing in Solo, Norway. After a string of bad luck with faulty hard drives, a collapsing record label, and territory license negotiations, Black Feather was saved from obscurity by Portland-based Other Electricities. And thank god.

I think I might be falling in love with this shadowy and talented Norwegian. Never one to bash the listener over the head with his talent, Frøland is master at bidding his time in gentle contemplation, using stratospheres of sound to envelope and penetrate covertly. Like walking through a dream world of fog and shadow, Silhouette keeps you following his lead, his voice, the beckoning light in a realm of dusky sound.

Lyrically, Frøland is much stronger than many of his contemporaries. Multiple tracks feature gorgeous literary lines such as those in “Étienne de Silhouette.”

Minister of fate, it clears that you remiss
Upon the lips of hate, it gives a callous kiss
Psychic whispers speak within, a feeling of too much
A battle that you cannot win, a face you cannot touch

Incredible.
