Since dropping Dandelion Day and Heart Attacks, The Kite Operations are back with their third and very different album, Festival. Slated for release on November 3rd, the band has since said goodbye to love ballads and contemporary music. The new release unveils a fiery and unconventional take to song-writing.

Joseph Kim and David Yang create an almost mesmeric sound with their vocals. The title track and the first song that appears on the album is a soft and methodical number. The guitars and heavy drums remain prominent in the background of the track, all the while never distracting listeners away from the beautiful vocals.

As the album progresses it is clear to hear all the experimental techniques the band incorporated. Songs like “Beyond,” “Slow Machines,” and “De Moroz” exhibits an aggressive mood and alternative rock sound.

But the band continues to surprise listeners with an unlikely song choice: Ave Maria. The cover is mainly instrumental, using very few vocals, and includes heavy electric guitars – an unexampled and interesting spin to a classical religious song.

Festival is not for everyone. The exploratory sounds make it a love or hate album. Mainstream music lovers may find this album outlandish and peculiar. However, if you’re looking to explore the world of music, this could be your album. With its deep lyricism and carefully constructed accompaniment, Festival is an unparalleled mixture of celebration, emotion and passion.
