Released this past April, The Last One is Mr. Ben Somer’s second album release. The title track is a love story that sings, “You’re the last one to call home/you’re the best at letting go…” It’s the lyrics, the chorus and the song itself that makess a beautifully sang and emotional ballad. And this is just one type of music on the album as Somer mixes it up, and not just sticking with just one sound.
He has many angles he takes musically, from punchy old school 50s piano, to twangy old country, all the way to love song ballads. Somer even projects different attitudes through each song: from raspy sounding vocals such as those in “Codine,” to sad tear-felt vocals like those heard in “The Last One.” This eager songwriter has a way with original music.
With this album, Somer has given life to stories lived and has done so in the loveliest way. A brilliant storyteller and poet, He’s originality will defiantly grab an audience’s attention wherever he goes. Somer has been influenced by the best and can be compared to them. The music can be compared to the likes of the legendary talents Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
