They say if you weren't there when Grunge happened (as with Beat poetry, Bohemia, or any other influential arts movement), you will never understand it.  There was something very specific and special about "that time" and "those people", so an album like this may be one of the few ways to press upon a new generation the reasons why the world went bonkers over five dudes named after "man juice".

I was but a child when this classic album was released, but its impact on me still came in the form of crazy-go-nuts elementary school dances, and later through music magazines and indie record store education.  Grunge still impacts me when I find new Mudhoney bootlegs or Melvins 7" EPs in hidden downtown shops.  Pearl Jam still impacts me each time I put "Ten" in the player.

Better than just getting the "re-mastered" version of "Ten" (and let's face it, does any one, except producers, know exactly what the hell "re-mastered" means?), the Legacy Edition includes a second CD, "Ten Redux", featuring the re-mixed AND -mastered "Ten", plus six bootleg songs from the same era.  Feeling like you're hearing a favourite band for the first time all over again is a thrilling sensation for music fans.  This may be the main reason why "Ten (Legacy Edition)" is a worthwhile purchase for those already "in-the-know".

The re-mix is actually fairly decent (ie. what "Ten" would sound like if released in 2009 as opposed to 1991), but without the accompanying "classic" version and bonus tracks it's nothing special.  Some extra accompanying literature (ie. Booklet explaining the eighteen year journey from "Ten" to present, theories behind new mixes, etc.) might have been appreciated, but with a 2-for-1 package, "Ten (Legacy Edition)" is a satisfying listen for the newly educated rocker, as well as the old school Jam fan.
