Domenica is average at best.
At first listen, they are your run-of-the-mill angst-rock band, popular with the Hoobastank crowd, and likely noticed by those clutching Amy Lee posters. At second listen, you may start to hear the Sublime-esque ska bass line, or the Freakshow-era silverchair guitar melodies, but as many times as you may listen again it seems that is about it.
This is a live recording - blessings and near instant moneymakers for established acts, but not the wisest choice for a Winnipeg group who haven't even released their debut album yet. The results (essentially their first recorded venture into the larger music market) are average: The songs are average; the guitar and drum work is average; the vocals are average as are the lyrics.
Average is simply not enough to reach out, snag the spiked-collars or skull-dotted ties of typical rock or metal fan, shake 'em down, scream "PAY ATTENTION!" in their eardrums and have them actually stop and listen. "Live at the Pyramid" is merely birthday party background music for Evanescence fans. But it isn't destination rock concert music.
Note: The acoustic version of their "Black Moon, a song that seems like a last-minute album addition, could easily be a Nirvana b-side recorded by a female Kurt Cobain. The haunting lilt is gorgeous, but it is the last and only track on the disc that had my full listening attention.
