I will be honest: I didn't listen to this entire album. I hit stop during Track 8 ("Tea and Sandwiches") concluding that I had given it more chances to redeem itself than it deserved.
She sounded promising on paper (comparisons drawn to Carly Simon and Sheryl Crow), but in practice Camille Miller does not deliver the goods. Her bio describes "effortless" vocals and "flawless" guitar work, yet I find her voice sounds strained in the throat, and if her guitar work is "flawless" it is also unremarkable. Her one-page tells me she straddles pop and "alternative genres", suitable to fans of The Dixie Chicks or Kelly Clarkson. I can only see the reasoning behind that statement in regards to Clarkson, however.
There are two real instruments on this album: guitars (acoustic and electric, including bass), and drums. The rest are keyboards and synthesized instruments. Pretend violins and cellos are not only annoying, they are insulting to any patron of music. Are we not worthy of actual wood-and-wire stringed angels??
I would name and discuss some of the songs at this point in the review, but I cannot recall any of them that stood out - good or bad - and that does not signify the least bit of interesting fodder for you the reader. Sorry, but we have been denied of even that.
