With a family full of musicians, naturally one tends to grow up into it. Though she grew up learning and mastering the art of classical vocal music, Emma Cook choose to take the folk and country road to share her emotion, talent and love for music.
Her sound reminds me of Alanna Myles or Joni Mitchell, Cook gives the listener not only a song but a song with true feeling. She doesn’t stick to just guitar and vocals, she mixes it up with brass instruments, piano, and sometimes she’ll throw in a jumpy pop in when you least expect it.
This fun album has personality written all over it, and though I may not be a fan of country or folk music, this one certainly caught me off guard. Cook has a lot of fun with her music and gives the listener what they least expect with her fun vocals and very story telling lyrics. With song titles like Song You Asked Me Not To Write, and Even Your Mamma Can Wear Stiletto Boots, one has to be curious about what this song is about. The titles themselves make you want to listen to the story behind them which is exactly what Cook has succeeded in doing. She puts her life stories to music, brilliant.
She has fun with lyrics, and plays around with her beautiful vocal abilities. Cook’s folky, country sound with a pop, is something fans will soon fall in love with.
