Released March 4, 2008, Red Yellow and Blue is the follow – up to The Born Ruffians self – titled EP. Inclusive of Luke Lalonde, Mitch DeRosier and Steve Hamelin, Toronto’s Born Ruffians take off in the pop music world, mixing drum beats, bass, electric guitar, piano, and vocals and have come up with a fun combination for this new album. The album was produced by the boy genius Rusty Santos from New York who mixed and recorded this Collection of Animal inspired tunes. From the poppy jumpy and fun vocals of Barnacle Goose to the fun guitar riffs and sing along sing songs of Badonkadonkey, this album has it all, and reminds me a bit of the Violent Femmes. Each song has its fun beats and lyrics that you can’t help but bounce your body to. The edgy indy rock sound gives this album a special something that I can’t put my finger on, similar to that of the Femmes. The melodic guitar riffs and the subtle sounds of other string instruments give this album that little something that makes it special. This is defiantly a summer album to pick up and turn on while you are outside on the patio drinking a beer.
