Released in January 2008, Katie Stelmanis is off to a good start with her first debut album Join Us. This soulful masterpiece was made by the Toronto local using her home computer system with the help of Maya Postepski on percussion, as well as Carmen Elle, Allie Hughes.

Stelmanis puts her heart into her music, and touches your soul with her strange jumps in musical uses and electronic vibes. The twisting and turning of the elemental metal sounds and punchy beats giving her vocal range the perfect backup.

The vibe I get from this is a very bouncy, electronic movement, melancholic otherworldly feel. Stelmanis is not afraid to play with sounds, almost like a fish that can’t stay still. Stelmanis incorporates her voice with piano, guitar, flute, and many different electronic twists and turns.

I would compare her to a mixture of Tegan and Sarah and The Sounds, she even has a bit of a Bjork vibe to her with the different uses of sound she takes advantage of. Her voice is very deep, has lots of feeling with a extremely moving vibrato. Although the new album has a bit of an independent artist feel, Stelmanis has major potential and will defiantly take no time to hit that high pedestal that every true artist aims for.
